From the classroom to the quay: turning knowledge into action

The real impact of the Portuguese Vocational Education and Training (VET) course came to life on 18 June 2026, when participants took part in a live operational training exercise at Porto de Aveiro🛳️

Following the VET course delivered on 12 and 17 June, participants from across the port community—including pilots, tugboat masters, vessel traffic operators, port coordination staff and maritime school trainees—put behavioural sustainability principles into practice in a real port environment🧑‍✈️⚓

By putting their learning into action, participants help to demonstrate how behavioural change can help ports build the skills needed for a greener, safer and more efficient future🌱

Our Train-the-Trainer Course: GREENPORT Curriculum for Maritime Sustainability 🛳️🌱

While our Higher Education and Vocational Education courses are designed for students preparing to enter the maritime sector or enhance their professional competencies, the Train-the-Trainer course focuses on the people responsible for educating the next generation of maritime professionals.

This course equips trainers and educators with practical teaching methods that encourage lasting behavioural change and promote more sustainable operational practices throughout the maritime industry.

Held on 12, 17 and 18 June 2026, the Portuguese Vocational Education and Training (VET) pilot brought together 24 participants at Port of Aveiro from across the port community, including pilots, tugboat masters, vessel traffic operators, port coordination staff and maritime school trainees🧑‍✈️

Participants explored how sustainability starts with behaviour, and demonstrated how behavioural change can play a significant role in making port service operations more environmentally sustainable.

By combining behavioural science, simulation technology and real operational experience, we are helping ports move towards greener, safer and more efficient operations 🛳️🌱
