Prof. Dr. Capt. Mustafa Taner Albayrak from Piri Reis University will deliver a keynote speech at the 12th International Maritime Congress to be held on 13–14 May 2026 in Szczecin, Poland🛳️
In his presentation titled “International Cooperation Delivers Tangible Results for the Maritime Industry”, Prof. Albayrak will emphasise the critical role of international collaboration in advancing sustainable maritime transformation, decarbonisation, digitalisation, climate resilience, and innovation across maritime-related sectors🌱
The presentation will also highlight the contributions of the EU-supported SUDEMAR (Sustainable Development of the European Maritime Sector) and Greenport Alliance projects in fostering cross-border cooperation, sustainable port operations, green transition, maritime education, and capacity building within the maritime ecosystem.
The session will underline how cooperation among academia, industry, ports, policymakers, and international stakeholders can create long-term environmental, economic, and social value for the maritime industry and future generations⭐

As part of the ongoing piloting phase of the Sustainable Maritime Operations and Greenport HEI Course, Piri Reis University had the pleasure of hosting Faruk Doğan, Secretary General of TÜRKLİM – Turkish Port Operators Association.
During this insightful session, he shared valuable expertise on:

During the pilot session of our VET course, we had the pleasure of welcoming maritime professionals to Antwerp Maritime Academy for a day focused on knowledge sharing and hands-on experience🎉
Following the theoretical component, participants engaged in a realistic simulator exercise, allowing us to directly assess the course’s impact in practice. It was a highly insightful and inspiring day, offering valuable takeaways and great opportunities to connect with new people in the sector🛳️

Greenport’s study titled “A COM-B Perspective on Integrating Sustainability into Maritime Education” accepted for publication 🙌
A new study titled “A COM-B Perspective on Integrating Sustainability into Maritime Education”, developed collaboratively by Piri Reis University, Constanta Maritime University, and the University of Rijeka, has been accepted for publication in the Scientific Journal of Maritime Research (POMORSTVO) and will appear in its June 2026 issue.
Addressing the urgent need for decarbonisation, the study reveals that while educators demonstrate strong motivation to incorporate sustainability and behavioural change approaches into their teaching, they face limitations in capability🌱 Particularly in terms of training and resources—and opportunity, such as access to real-life case studies and interactive learning environments🛳️
The findings highlight the critical role of educators in shaping sustainable mindsets and practices among future maritime professionals, offering actionable insights to support the transition towards greener and more resilient port and shipping operations.

Last month, representatives of Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy took part in an academic visit to Klaipėda, Lithuania. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to present Greenport Alliances, exchange good practices in maritime education and strengthen cooperation with international partners engaged in the transition toward more sustainable maritime operations🌱
A major highlight of the week was the participation in the international conference “Maritime, Offshore Energy and Port Logistics (MOEPL 2026).” The event brought together representatives from academia, maritime industry and institutional stakeholders from different European countries to discuss current developments in maritime transport, offshore energy, port logistics and more! These areas closely resonate with the broader objectives of Greenport, especially in relation to sustainability, innovation and the human dimension of transformation in port-related activities.
During the week, Assoc. Prof. Georgi Dimitrov and Capt. Assist. Prof. Mihail Gachevski also delivered lectures on contemporary maritime topics, including emission reduction in port regions and the use of alternative fuels in shipping⛽
